It is reported m Christchurbh businass circles that there is every probability of an increase to' 6£ per cent, en the bank rate for advances. No official confirmation can be obtained for this report, but color is lenMo it by the fact that the tendency for gome time has been m the direction of an increase, and there is the prospect that, at the close of the commandeer period the banks will have to undertake the financing of producers who, up till now, have been paid m cash by the Imperial Government.
