♦ ELECTION OP PIRST COUNCIL. • 1 (Special to the Herald.) TE ARAROA, this day. The first election m connection with the newly-constituted Matakaoa County (Northern Waiapu) was held on Saturday. Considerable interest was manifested m the election, there being keen competition to secure the honor of representative on the new Council. The election resulted as follows : — AWATERE RIDING (3 Councillors). Crs. *W. P. Metcalfe, R. T. Kohere, and C. J. B. Beckett. Other candidates were Messrs. C H. Clarke. Henare Pereto, and J. P. Pettie. HOROERA RIDING (1 Councillor). Cr. Wm. Walker. , Other candidates were Messrs. Peta i Marikena, and Watene Waititi. WHANGAPARAOA RIDING (3 Councillors). Crs. A. L. Allan, A. E. Kemp, and K. F. Reed (other candidate Mr. C. R. E. Wood) WHAREKAHIKA RIDING (2 Councillors). Crs. Geo. Kirk and H. McClutchie (other candidates, Messrs. G. H. Maddock and Dr. Tutere Wi Repa).
