HARBOR BOARD.
MR F. J. LYSNAR RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN.
A special' meeting .of the Harbor Board to elect a chairman for the ensuing twelve months was held to-day. There were present :' Messrs G. Smith, G. Wildish, J. W. ;J. Preston, G. G. Holdsworth H. White, G. Witters, J". Monat, T.- Quirk, H. J. Peacocke, R. M. Birrell. .and D S -Jamison In the absence of Mr. F. J. Lyshar, Mr. G. Smith was voted to-- the chair. The chairman, extended a . welcome to Messrs.- Peacocke !t and . Hol.dsworjbh, the, new members, and to -Mr. Quirk, who, h f is been re-elected .to the Board. ,He hoped they ' would all work well to getlier. He expressed regret at the' absence of Mr. G. W. Humphreys from the Board, -and moved a vote of thanks' to him.for'ihis:.ya,lu-ble services -in the past! Messrs. Witters and Birrell spoke along the "same tine's- as M r. Smith. •Messrs. Quirk. Peacocke and Holds worth briefly returned thanks. ... • Mr. - Preston mentioned that Messrs i A. H. Wallis-and R. M. Birrell .had! been re-appbinted as the Government! nominees, and .the. Board expressedj pleasure at their appointment, Mr. Bir- j rell expressed pleasure at his return, and-! said there was much heavy work ' before them,, and they must all .push together. . Mr. Smith proposed that Mr., F. J. | Lysnar be elected as the Board's chair- ] man for the ensuing year. He had been, a tower , of ; strength to the Board, apr had given a tremendous lot of time and gone to a lot, of trouble m eonnectipn with the. proposed .new harboiy A_r. Mr. Quirk said that he would second tho motion, as he considered that Mr. Lysnar had the energy and qualified tions to carry out the , work of the Board. . . ... ,iMr. Birrell . supported the motion. , yMv Witters also supported the motion,, .saying Mr. -Jiysnar was 1 well -fitted to qarry out "the heavy work: ahead.'' ...'.'•Mr. . Mr. .'.White was iii favor of letting things remain as they had been. ; Mr. Wildish said that there was much to- be said for both .proposals. He wanted,' publicity^ for unless there was publicity the people got uneasy.: The chairman explained that the object of. having the ' whole Board was to enable country mem'bers 'to attend. If they were \special . committees there were times when they could not attend and the committee might not be able te ; meet. The.' work' was done at the committees and_ not /.it the Board meetings. He considered that committees of the whole Board were the most suitable.
