A SERIOUS OUTLOOK
NEW. SOUTH WALES DROUGHT. HIGH . PRICES FOR. MEAT. Elec Tel. -Copyright— United Press Assn.« SYDNEY, May 9; The press is echoing a^ outcry against the high prices of meat. Cattle are being rushed ; into the market owing to the drought over a large extent .of grassing areas, causing a glut of beef. Wholesalers are. paying 3d to 6|d per lb, killed meat being retailed 8d to 2s. At the present time the- whole of the cold storage m New South Wales is crammed with b.eef, mutton, and rabbits, estimated equivalent to half a milli'cm. carcases awaiting shipment,; most of which has been frozen oyer a year.* All stock coming -forward now must be consumed, hence the outcry at the. high prices with a glutted market, Graziers are fearful that besides "their present losses the drought will endanger the lambing sea•son, <and declare that Unless soaking drought-breaking rains— of which at present there are no indications— fall during the present month, lambing will be practically a total failure. The outlook at the best is 'serious and a large reduction of flocks is certain. ' *
