NO TRUCE WITH TREACHEROUS BERMONDT.

The Daily Chronicle's Riga correspon- J dent states that Colonel Berkaig fired on white flags with; which Bermondt on Sunday afternoon attempted to open a truce. He is in readiness to transport the British residents from Riga. A shell struck the. British mission but there were no casualties. The German envoys warned the British destroyers to leave the harbor on Sunday evening, announcing that a heavy bombardment was imminent. Carts collect th e bodies in the streets. The besiegers aro reported to bo suffering heavy casualties. Two German battalions mutually attacked each other owing to the darkness. The British mission at Helsingfors has reported that Bermondt addressed a note to the Allied missions in the Baltic provmcea alleging that the Esthonians and Letts had commenced hostilities against' his troops. Bermondt therefore was compelled to take action in order to restore order. The message adds: "There is no truth in these statements.' The German, are using gas shells and also bombing Riga. The Letts blew np the bridges and are exchanging rifle shots with the Germans.
