GREAT BAND BATTLE

MOBILISATION OF "HUSSARS"

REGIMENT,

Steps were taken last evening to organise the mobilisation of, the 'second army" for participation m the forthcoming great Band Battle. Representative residents of the, western sido of Gladstone road held a "War Council" at Messrs. Chrisp, and Son's music' warehouse to arrange a jjlan of campaign. Mr. G. C. Mimns, who acted as convenor, ejnpha'sised the sacrifice the City Band had, made, fqr patriotic purposes, and pointed out tha,t the present, campaign was m fulfilment of the promise made on behalf of; th© citizens of? Gisborne m 1915; when, the, band generously withdrew from, the/ successful queen carnival.

Representatives of the executive, wore present, and m the course fit the discussion it was intimated- that Lady Carroll and Pare Keiha were calling a meeting of Maoris, with a view to participating m the scheme. An assurance of support and sympathy, was received from lather Lane. In/ explaining the organisation of tho campaign. Mr. W, Lints, organiser, stated that things' were "gqlMf strong." All that had to be done 5 ™ tjll August 28 was the selling of badges, nnd they hoped by that date that all Gjsbornites would be enlisted m one or other of the opposing "armies." Fpote, D. Jamison, C. W. Cameron,, H. Ri Simeon and Father Lnne : bndre exp-' cutive, Miss Gordon, Messrs L. K. Doherty, and K. Burr (with powei* to add) ; convenors of ladips' meetinp. Mesdames Mander, Foote. Hogg, R. Robinson, and Miss Gordon. ' A meeting of the committee will be called at an early date to arrange the plan of campaign to place the green and pold "army" on a solid baste; A vote of thanks was accorded to Messrs. Chrisp and Son for the uso of the premises.
