POPE AND PEACE.
REQUEST TO THE ALLIES. I PARIS, June 15. — Mopsignor Cerretti (Secretary tb the Vatican), on behalf of the Pope, has applied to. the , Allies for the alteration of Articles 122 '.and 436 of the Peace Treaty. The former authorises tho repatriation of Germans from their former .colonies,- and -tho latter pledges that the property of the German, missions will continue to be devoted to missionary purposes,- but provides for "a board of trustees, holding the Christian' faith." Monsignor Cerretti, in his memorandum, claims that *he articles infringe tlie rights of .the' Holy See, by which Catholic missions. come under the Canon Law, and urges that Catholic missionaries should not .be deported, except after reference *to the . Vatican. He claims that the board of trustees should be wholly Catholic. PARIS, June 20.— Tho text of the revised peace terms as issued meets the Vatican's request, providing that ' the boards of trustees for German mission **- in the colonies shall be composed of members belonging to the same faith -is tlio Missions, the Allies undertaking l<> .safeguard tlio interests of the mission**.
