(Australia n and N.Z. cable Association!

LONDON, June 12

Tho peace conference still ig making very slow progress and apparently the Germans are determined they will not sign the treaty as originally presented to them. The Allied Powers are agreeable to certain modifications as regards the Eastern boundaries and others matters of secondary importance, but will adhere to their main proposals and principles. The position is far from satisfactory, and the overseas delegates are naturally impatient at the delay. Mr ,3>loyd George has urged Mr Massey to stay as long as he possibly can, as the greatest importance is attached to the final decisions.

Mr Massey is anxious that New Zealand should not be unrepresented, but he has indicated that he cannot stay longer than another fortnight. NEW YORK, 'June 5.

The Herald's Paris representative uiys that he learns from an authoritative British source that the Council of Four will ask Turkey to send delegates to Paris for the purpose of concluding the peace treaty between Turkey ;and the Allies.

The fact that the Mahommedan races who are subject to British rule,, are opposed to the elimination of the Turkish Empire and the apparent disinclination of the United States to accept the mandate over Turkey, are. given as the reason for the new decision.

The Turkish State will be established within the limits of Anatolia. The Sultan will be given full religious and political sovereignty, , but Turkey will renounce all claim to Constantinople.
