The second day's events of the Gisborne Racing Club's steeplechase meeting -were run off on the Te Hapara course to-day m ideal weather. There was a larger attendance of racegoers than on- the two previous days' racing, probably due. to .Saturday half-holiday people going out early in' the day. The fields, although small m a few of the events, provided some good racing, and the finishes were generally of an exciting nature. The earlier results- were as follows :

GISBORNE HURDLES HANDICAP, of 200 soys., second horse to receive 40 soys., and third horse 16 soys. from stake. Over seven flights of hurdles. Distance, one and three-quarter miles : Mr. W. Howard's b g Bjorneborg, syrs., Finland — Warscare, 9.0, (Warner) : 1 "Mr. W. Olive's br g Cymer. 9.0, (McKinnon) ... ' 2 Mr. F. Hall's eh g Hythread, 9.8 (R. Thompson) 3 —The trio competed, Multive ' being scratched. From an. evpn start Cymei took the lead, with .Bjorneborg m ;> handy position, .and Hythi'ead a length behind. On passing tKe stand the firs! time the order was Cymer. Bjorneborg any Hythread. On leaving the straight Bjorneborg resumed the lead. Hythread came up," but after the seventh furlong fell back and showed signs of tiring. On the run round the back of the course Bjorneborg increased his lead to Severn" lengths. Oil the run home Bjorneborg cleared, the last hurdle ificely ; he added another half-length to his lead froir Cymer, and won by a good four lengths, with Hythread fully a furlonc away, Time 3.10. * . *

From a fairly good start the field 1 of eleven were away, with Master Curran m front. At the home bend, Demonstrate assumed the lead, and on the run home Glengyle made a bold bid with Master Curran foi second place, only leading by a head Demonstrate won by half a length. Howard), Fiddlestring 9.3 (E. Manson,), Orateur 9.0 (R. Reid), Blackal' 9.0 (R. Manson). >From a good start Orateur broke away, with Ohoreka and Crosswords slightly ahead of the bunch. At the back home bend Gazique, who had been running; third to last, crept up to third place, and an. exciting finish ensued. Gazique gradually gained ground, and won by half a head, with Ohoreka a length ahead of Crosswords. Time 1.44 3-5.

Arnott's b g Aurore, Birkenhead — Eob, aged, 10.13 (Lorrigan) ...... .., ... ... ... 1 Mr. F. J. Lysriar's b g Diavolo, aged, Wenikore— Heavenly Twin 11.3 (R; Thompson) ... 2 —Only the pair started, Peneton being scratched. The pair took the first hurdle together, but m the bend leading to the straight Diavolo gained a slight lead. Later both jumped together, bu* Aurore took the lead, his jumping being excellent. The leader was unchallenged until the : back straight, whenp Aurore increased his lead to fully ten lengths, at the brush m the home" bend Diavolo made ,a sti'ong effort to pull up, but Aurore increased the lead by a length on the last two jumps, and won by a good two lengths. Time 5.18. After the third race Wopdrow an<l Fiddlestring -were offered at auction. Tim former was passed m at £50, and the other at £35. The totalisator figures for the first four races to-day amounted to £8986, as against £8331 for the corresponding races last year, an increase of £655.
