Tlie second totalisator meeting of th'e Poverty ' Bay Hunt / Club' •> was ' held today; m ideal weather, the course being m splendid., order, f arid some fine racing being, witnessed. There was a good attendance of'the public, and although the fields .were not large some excellent finishes were witnessed. On the run to the back straight Woodrow and Puna Rakau were level, but the latter drew away fully three. lengths. -On the back home bend Woodrow and Gay Boy, came up, and they entered the straight m a bunch with Woodrow a 'little m front. Nick's Head assumed command as soon as the barrier was lifted, and led Master Curran ran through. Nick's head beating the others easily. Mountain Eagle was a head clear of Mutilla. From a good start all burst out m a bunch, High Step later momentarily gaining the lead, and then being passed by Cymer, who led into the straight. The order wae unchanged until High Step made a bad jump at * the 7-furlong hurdle, and Cymer drew -away. High Step then closed up, and- the pair took .the back iiome bend together. High Step overtook Cymer, but |hejatter pulled ahead again on the home bend, with High. Step close on his heels. On the last fence Cymer gained a- little, and won by three lengths, with 'Mamangu four lengths behind Higlv Step. From a splendid start all got away . together, Carlysian soon taking the lead, with Aire, Hythread, and Goldenlyte m. that order. ." On entering the straight Hythread made a bold bid for victory* but Carlysian maintained the lead and won by a head, with Tokitwp lengths away third, and finishing strongly. .
