(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) (Received May 2, 11.30 aiTm.) LONDON, April 27. Mr. W. E, Home, presiding at a com'ipittee, meetinff of the. National Industrial Conference, Whitehall, read a letter from Mr. 'Lloyd George, stating that foreign countries were looking to Britain to give, a lead in the founding of a better industrial order. He expressed approval of a forty-eight hour week and a minimum wage to be fixed by a commission. Elasticity was required in particular industries, such as agriculture, in which seasonal and other conditions necessitated special consideration, and such as seamen and domestic servants. Where a forty-eight, hour -week was impossible, the Act should otherwise apply to all industries wherein legal limitation of hours was practicable. He hoped a solution of Vina urgent problem of the unemployed would he the. first question claiming th© projected National Indus- " tidal Council's attelitibn. 3u" -vifas^hoijed that the Cbuncil would bo established at the very earliest moment. He was sure it would be of great value in assisting. , the Government to improve iridustnal conditions.
