SOLDIER SETTLEMENT.

The following new selections are notified by the local Land Board for settlement by returned soldiers, m the Auckland and Hawke's Bay land districts: — The Mangateparu Settlement m the Piako County near Morrinsville consists of 3390 acres of first-class land cut up into 60 sections. The whole block consists of law downs with soil of a free nature practically all ploughable and easily worked, 'iuie settlement. is watered 1 by running streams and ' tbe Piako river and tributaries from the eastern boundary. Some of the subdivisions have no permanent water, but it is believed that sufficient supplies are obtainable anywhere by sinking. The jpasture consists of good English grasses and is generally m good order, but portions will require breaking up and regrassing before dairying can be carried on to the best advantage. The new roads through the . settlement are being formed. Applications for this block close on March 18, 1919_ Two places about 15 miles from Napier also have been opened, the total 'area being 3990 acres. The Awa-o-Totara Block comprises 1286 acres and the remainder consists of the Pakuatahi Block. The land m question has been held under native lease for 30 years or more, and has been improved by felling and sowing,, but has been allowed to go back again. It is excellent sheep and cattle country, and a good living should be made off any of the sections when improved. It comprises the watershed of the Pakuratahi stream with broad flat and e as,V ridges. Applications close on .March 12, 1919. wmmmmmmmmmwmmmmmmf
