EPIDEMIC COMMISSION.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Before the Epidemic Commission Dr. Frengley added that he made a graph of the first 77 deaths, and found that there were 51 deaths of males and 26 females; 37 of the men were aged 21 to 50. He at once noted that the aged and school children were not the ones to be very anxious about. No information at this date was availble as to the precautions taken m Britain and America. It became necessary, therefore, to invent precautions. Such precautions as were established m Auckland had the support of practice, and were established simultaneously elsewhere. He received a supply of polyvalent mixed with vaccine from Wellington, but did not recommend its use, as he was doubtful of it. He arranged for the use of masks, but the epidemic came too suddenly *bo make them of use as a preventative. When he boarded the Makura he found three children had been slightly affected before leaving Honolulu. The second officer had taken ill on November 15. He had been isolated, and had recovered. An adult woman had been landed at Suva. There were no measles aboard then. He found five members of the crew isolated, two poss'bly suffering from influenza. One patient subsequently died at Motuihi. Tn all thirty-six cases were removed to the island for treatment. Three deaths had occurred.
