SEQUEL TO SHOOTING CASE.
— * I In the Supreme Court, at Dunedin, Mary, Janet Moody, who was acquitted in November last on a charge of having attempted to murder her husband, Benjamin Willam James Moody, sought a dissolution of marriage on the ground of misconduct. A decree nisi was granted. ' Mary Jane Moody ' was charged with the attempted murder of ' her husband, ' Benjamin W. J. Moody, by shooting, ' at the Supreme Court, Dunedin, ih November last. . The evidence showed that accused and her husband had nat lived .happily together, Jiaving been , twice separated. On the occasion .of the shooting accused -went to her husband's house to see a sick child. The. husband was summoned, and hearing his wife's voice in altercation with his housekeeper,. Miss Medley, feared she was going to assault the latter. He seized his wife and carried her to the gate. During the struggle accused took a revolver from under her jacket aiid fired , the bullet striking Moody near the left" arm- ' pit. Accused gave evidence on her own behalf. She said that her husband was acting like a madman, assaulted hen* and bit her windpipe, and fearing ; for her life, she placed the revolver, against ■ his 'shoulder, and fired. Had she .wished tc« kill him" sho ' could have placed it agairist his heart. The jury found a verdict of not guilty, and accused was discharged.
