MOTORING FATALITY.
DEATH OF COLONEL McCREDIE,
An unfortunate motoring accident occurred on the Opoutama road at 6. 30 last evening, resulting in the death of Colonel M. McCredie, a much-esteemed resident of .Gisbonie of many years' standing. Advice from Nuhaka received last -evening was to the effect that when motoring back rrom the Morere stock sale last evening the car met a waggon at a sharp bend of th. road. The drivel*, Mr J. L. Bowen, endeavored to pass on the outside, but the car unfortunately went over the bank and overturned. The" occupants of the car also included YMr and Mrs and Miss Gower, who were pin"* med under the car and were severely shaken. When extricated it was found that Colcaiel McCredie had. been killed. The body was subsequently conveyed to Morere, where an inquest was to be held to-day. Thp late Colonel McCredie was for fih&ny years resident at Wellington, •where ne took an active interest in and Was largely responsible for the carrying •on of the Wellington Volunteer Artillery, holding the rank of captain. On his retirement ..from the New Zealand forces in 1908 he was granted the rank of LhautoColonel. The late Colonel and Mrs McCredie were residents of GisIborne for about 30 years, and celebrated "their golden wedding under the most happy auspices on June 30, 1915. Colonel McCredie was p re-deceased by Mrs McCredie about a year ago. He has latterly been engaged farming on a property near Opoutama, to which he was returning last evening after having attended the Morere stock sale. Much sympathy will be extended to the.' family, which comprises Miss Nellie McCredie (at present visiting Christchurch) ; Mrs King, of Taupo; Mrs Mmv ray, of Hastings; Mr Alfred McCredie, of the Rail\v^,y Department, Christchurch; M. James D. McCredie, of Sydney, and. Yjfr w. S. McCredie, of the staff of My A. Havma, solicitor, Auckland.
