THOUGHTS OF UMA.
: *— ! "As the rata clings, so my thoughts are -ever with, thee.' l I -am thinking of someone who loved mo. When the rata was scarlet with flowers; And the summer sun was shining i In this peaceful land of ours. Someone who left the bushland, ! Where the ti-tree grows so white; To answer tlio call of tbe Motherland, For England. God, and Right. I am longing for someone who left me, When the .bell bird sang o'erhead; The bird still sings, and the rata blooms, But the lad I love is dead. Away m an Eastern country, He died, far away from me; But ray thoughts are ever with liim, As the rata clings to the tree. I am' praying .that- 1 may meet him, Oh God! Let it not be m vain; Perhaps I shall then know tho .. meaning Of life with its parting and pain. j He only rests, my soldier lad, Far from the South land' and me; . I Not dead. Ah no! He will live m my heart Till we meet, m Eternity. — G.E.S. Gisborne, June, 1918.
