PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
MINISTERIAL PROPOSALS! (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Internal Affaire stated to-day that he has submitted to the Cabinet proposals for peace celebrations, and a draft had' been ap» proved, with slight modifications. The celebrations will be on the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday after peace is pro*claimed. The two latter days will be public holidays. The Government appeals to employers to grant employees, domestic and industrial, all possible leave during the celebrations and to pay full wages and salaries on celebration days. Sunday will be a day of thanksgiving, appropriate services being held. Monday will be soldiers' day, with military processions, etc. The schoolchildren will be massed' at suitable points. •At noon on Monday a gilent bare-headed tribute for one minute will be paid to the brave dead, and all trams and trains will temporarily cease runnings and all employment cease. In the afternoon there will be military reviews, tournaments, etc. Returned soldiers will wear uniforms, and be placed m positions of honor. The third day will be children's day. On Monday and l Tuesday there will be illuminations and bonfires. The subsidies to local bodies will be 10a m the £ for £1000, whether expenditure be out of ordinary funds or by voluntary contributions; J8750 a 12s 6d subsidy, £500 a 15s subsidy, £250 a 17s 6d subsidy; and £100 or iess 90s. The Government will m addition provide the railway fares of returned soldiers to the nearest city or- town, and the railway fares of children from rural districts to the nearest city or town.
