HAWERA, last night. The weather was. delightful and there was a large attendance at the Egmont Club's meeting. The course was m splendid order. The totalisator investments amounted to £32,978, against £2€',033 last year. Later results : — i Egmont Cup : Afterglow (Deeley) 1, Dusky Eve 2, Depredation 3. 'Also started 1 : Rewipoto, Ladogeur, Form Up, Alteration, Dingle,. Killard, Bingham. Form Up was first to show out, but along the back Alteration passed the leaders, Afterglow lying last. With heads turned for home Depredation, Dusky Eve, and Afterglow became prominent, a good finish resulting • m Afterglow gaining the verdict By a bare length, with a length and a half between the next two. Time, 2.36. Ladies' Purse : Spinifix 1 Khartoum 2, Master Webster 3. Also started: Applaud, Polthogue, Te Ao, Simmoretta Monument, Ngakanui. Won comfortably by two lengths, four lengths between "second and third. Time, 1.54. Egmont Stakes, of 500 sovs^; oen mile. EGMONT STAKES, of 500 soys, 1 mile. 2 — Gloaming, 9.0 (Deeley) ... 1 I— Desert Gold, 9.0 2 Croesus, 9.0, also started. Desert Gold drew the outside position, with Gloaming on '<■ the rails. Gfloaming and Croesus were early ' m the lead, with Desert Gold' slightly further back. Between the four and the three furlongs posts Croesus fell, interfering with Desert Gold, who lost about three lengths. Though the favorite put m a great effort 1 she failed to reach the winner, who finished with two and a-half lengths to spare. Morris, the rider of Croesus, escaped injury. Time., 1.10. Waipapa Hack Handicap: Perfect Day 1 Tiranga 2', Philomela 3. Also started : Pomeroy, Compel, Cojonel Paul. Won by half a length, two lengths between second and' third. Time, 1.29.
