General H. J. Gouraud, is believed to be the "General G- " who has, been mentioned for his magnificent generalship, m the operations m the Cliam'pagne region. In 1915 he was m cony jmahd of the French expeditionary ■forces to the Gallipoli Peninsula, wbere he .lost an arm and was Beriously' wounded m the right thigh. He was > succeeded by , General Sarrail andl returned to France, -where an official statement said that he had been assigned to the command of one of the armies at the front.
