BRITISH ORGANISING NEW TERRITORY. THE POSITION AT LENS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association* (Received September 7, 2.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 6. Mi* Percival Phillips writes: Fighting ceased almost as abruptly as it be- j gal* along tho new front on the Nord Canal. Ihere have only been local conflicts. The Germans have concentrated their guns heavily on both sides of Cambrai. Wo made no effort to attack Moeuvres. Thero ia a great deal of iwork to be done. .Nesr Repots must bo built; roads and! railways require reconstruction. It is incorrect to say that Lens has faliLen. The Germam outposts have with- 1 diawn to .some extent, but the enemy hojds tho bulk of the ruins. Though we are established iit the town on the north-west and south-west the Germans live underground' and enter the city by tunnels. Ij&ns is a complete ruin. Even the site of the cathedral is unidentifiable.
