SPEECH BY MR. MASSEY.
DUTY TO PUNISH GERMANY FOR ATROCITIES FUTURE OF THE EMPIRE. (Australian and N.Z. Gable Association. LONDON. Aug. 19. Mr. Massey, ill tt speech at the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce, said that in all the war's fluctuations the dominions had iiot lost confidence in final sue cess. Our first duty after victory lt*as to punish Germany' for her atrocities. He said the business transacted by thc Imperial Conference was tremendously important, for which it was well wortli crossing the world, because the dominions took a place in a partnership which, he believed, would continue after the Avar. There could then be a permanent Imperial Cabinet. The German hammer had welded the Empire into an indissoluble mass. We must think of the Empire in future. The- time would come when the dominions would possess 20 people to the square mile ; then the Empire's strength would be enormous. "Now is the time," he declared, "to make such arrangements for the future as will keep the Empire in the front rank of the nations for all time. Businesslike and statesmanlike management can do this." Mr. Massey concluded by issuing warning against pacifists and German peaceful penetration.
