FOOTBALL.
The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the l'.B. Rugby Union was he£di last evening* at the training shod; the- following members being present; Messrs W. Howard (chairman), J. e-'Xfeill, P. Edmondson, D. Bell, A. H. Steele, Wi Friday, i\ Woodberry, E. Featon, and J. 0. E. Turner (hon. sec). Mr B. Brown', refteree m Saturday V match, Y.^I.P. v. High School, repoi'ted having had occasion; to order a player m the V.M.P. team off the field for rough play. After hearing the evidence of the referee, the player m question, and another player m the same team,, the Committee decided to' dismiss the.oharge. It was pointed out by members of the Committee tliat the 'charge of rough play should,' m their opinion, Jiave 'been preferred against another- V.M.P. player who, unfortunately, was not before thu Union for tjhe offence. Players were passed for V.M.P. , High School, Kaiti-City, and. Huia, subject to their conforming" to th© necessary regulations. . • United Football Chib applied for \ise of the training shed on Thursday evenings, but the request was refused, as Kaiti-City had a prior application. It was decided that no club -would be allowed to make use of the training shed unless the club's delegats was prosent to take "charge. The Committee found it necessary to make this rule owing to the damage which had been don--.* to the building by players using the shed when going through their training. Auckland Rugby Union <wroto stating their inability to visit Gisbomo with a representative teaan .this year. It was decided to devote tho net pro-, ceedls of the Old Timers' match, Poverty Bay v. Hawke's Bay, to .the patriotic; funds. It was arranged that the Old Timers* team should meet at the training slied on Wednesday evening for training',.. and' that they should plfiy a practice game against V.M.P. on Saturday next. Huia were granted permission to play a match against T» Karaka on a dato to-.-be arranged, provided the match didjiot interfere with the competition. A cub -committee, consisting of Messrs W. Howard, A. H. Stee'.e, L. J. Planlc, and J. C. R Turner, was set up to confiider tho question of grounds for the future, with instructions to report as soon as possible. It was decided that United,; if they so desired, should play a practice match on No. 2 ground against the Hifrh School team at 1.30, vm\., Mr J. O'Neill offering to f n 1 fi{j the duties of referee. The Committee decided to donate goalposts to '-tho Gisborno School for erection on the Reserve, .where thiO'boj's practice each. Thursday afternoon. It was decided to write asking the press to more fully report the ma.t.choa than had' been done heretofore this season. ■ It was pointed out that the standard of play was itmch higher than had been tho case since the commencement of the war, and the gaane was doing a ■ lot to keep men -fit prior to going on active service.
