SYDNEY, July 15. A sensation was caused m racing circles at the discovery that one of thfc fences on the National Steeplechase course had been tampered with prior to the race on Saturday. The inside top rail was almost sawn through, the paddipg being replaced. It was one of the most formidable fences on the course. During the first round all the competitors 'cleared it, but m the second round Booligal and Doiran struck it and the rail fell away. There is another sensation at Towhsvil'e, where the mare Etal, her owner, Cormack, and jockey, Thompson, have lippn disqualified for life. The stewards found EtaVs tongue tied with tape after losing the yace, m which she started favorite.
