The country demanded from Parliament the fixing of responsibility. Past mistakes nvust be atoned , for and ciumes punished. The Government must also carry out ; great financial reforms as tlio war burdens exceeded five hundred and twenty miflion sterling. Ho had always opposed the war and urged ■the conclusion of peace to save what was saveabltj, thanks. to the credit enjoyed with those ■wherewith they negotiated.
