HUN FLEET KNOWS BRITISH ALSO HAVE SUBS.
MORE THAN FORTY WARSHIPS SUCCESSFULLY ATTACKED. WASHINGTON, May. 9. , More than 40 German warships have been attacked successftilly by British submarines. This was disclosed by an official British statement made public to-day by the committee on public information. The review was- tne most extensive ever received m this country of the work of the British under-water craft concerning the activities of which little news has reached America since their famous raids m the Dardanelles and the Baltic Sea. Various exploits of individual craft are recounted. In many instances the' submarine commanders have threaded their way throngh. dangerous mine fields to seek out their quarryi and so successful have they been m penetrating the defences of the German coast that the report notes that the enemy "rarely allows his above-water craft beyond the confines of his harbors."
