IRISH INTIMIDATION.
(Elec. Tel. Copyright— United Press Assn.) (Australian and N.Z Cable Association.! LONDON, June 17. The Daily Chronicle states that thousands of Irishmen are living under intimidation, which is universal. Many subscriptions to the so-called National Defence Fund and many signatures to the anti-conscription pledge were obtained by direct and unashamed intimidation. If a, member of a Board of Guardians points out a doctor or other officer who has not subscribed to the funds, the Guardians postpone consideration of his business until the culprit has explained the omission. The official invariably amends the fault. A well-known agriculturist subscribed £100 to the Defence Fund, knowing his crops would not be reaped if he did! not, Just as the de-
portation of Sinn Fein leaders pleased / many Nationalists, so thousands of Irishmen would welcome a reviv.il of trial by special juries and: a change of venue if it would end intimidation.
