, That the Acting Prime Minister be •asked to amend the Old- Age Pensions .' Act with a ' vieAv to prohibiting Germans from receiving old age or invalid pensions and the maternity allowance, Avhich are alloAved under the existing conditions, is the text of al motion carried by the Manly Council. Alderman Reid, the mover, said that the clause, Avhich gave every German Avoman a bonus of 435 for every German baby born m Australia, could be repealed. ' In NeAv South Wales alone five pure-bred Germans Avere born every day. The payment of pensions and allowances- to "Germans was an insult to our soldiers.
