WORK IN SOMME OFFENSIVE. GREAT GALLANTRY DISPLAYED. Speaking of the New Zealand Division in France, Colonel Plugge, who has just returned, said that when the recent Somme offensive started it had just completed five weeks' training and recreation behind the lines. The men were in spleiidid condition when they left to resist "the great German push. One battalion marched 38. miles from the railhead to the trenches and went straight into the fight without a rest, and the men couiducted themselves most gallantly. Such a feat of endurance.- he said, was noteworthy. The New Zealanders filled a four-mile gftp at a most critical time, and undoubtedly had done their share in holding the Germans.
