LIBERTY LOAN SUCCESS. A BOND FROM EVERY FAMILY. MELBOURNE, May 7. Ihe following wireless message has been reoeived from Honolulu : — NEW YORK, May 6. It ia announced that the Committee of Public Information has received the following message from its London office: "The American navy is making the same fine record m the air as its destroyers are making m European waters. Two recent attacks upon submarines by Americans m British seaplanes have won official commendation. The naval flyers are not limited to sea activities. "Despatches from France state that American .troops raided m the Lorraine sector, penetrating to the third line of the German trenches, after heavy bombardment, without finding a single Teuton, as all had fled. '"The enemy's works were destroyed on a 600 yards front." GREAT SHIPPING ACTIVITY SAN FRANCISCO, May 6. After a tour of the Pacific coast, the Government inspector states that 3,825,---000 tons of shipping was being built and had been contracted for prior to April 1, there being 1,0(30,000 tons m the San Francisco district, 1,000,000 m the Seattle district, 1,000,000 m the Cblurnbin district, and 425,000 m the Los Angeles district. WASHINGTON, May 6. A flood of 'subscriptions marked the final day of the Third Liberty Loan campaign for £600,000,000, which ended at midnight on Saturday. Several days will be required to tabulate the figures, but the ofticials have no doubt that the total exceeds Germany's recent £692,---200,000, which is the foe's greatest loan. Incomplete figures show already, a total of £640,731,080. Every State and every oounty exceeds its quota. Guam subscribed £10,000 through the Philippine National Bank's New York agents. The Pribiloff islanders sent £470; an excess of £1,600,000 is claimed by the San Francisco district. Large sums are credited to the Japanese, Chinese, Hun-' gnriams, Austrians, and even Germans, and many others of foreign blood.. The number of subscribers exceeds 12,000,---000, perhaps it 'is 15.000,000, as compared with the 9,500,000 m the Second Loan and about 4.000,000 m the Firjst Loan. This means almost an ■ average of one bond to every United States family. The loan is officially .described as an overwhelming success. The result is due largely ta the general popular support, as the large financial interests were compelled to reserve their funds for heavy income excess profits taxes due to the Government next month.
