AUSTRALIAN SNIPERS BUSY.

(Australian Official Correspondent) LONDON, May 6. The Australians made an advance beside the French early on Friday morning, near Meteren.

The Australians were not involved m the heavy fighting on April 29. That great attack came on against the Trench and British further north. There seems little dpubfc that it was the heayipst repulse the Germans have me£ pince the offensive .started.

Visiting the north to-day, one found everywhere that the mon were very cheerful over the results of that battle. The Australians there have • not been involved m- heavy fighting 1 since the first week of thejr arrival m the north, but they aro constantly bombarding and sniping .the Germans,, The weather at the front is now splendid, but even when living m the cold! and rain during the recent fighting} tho spirits of the Australians were splendid. One Australian division of snipers during a short period m the Hpe shoj> 130 Germans during their ordinary occupation of the trenches. It is claimed that this number included only those who were spen to fall by at )east three obseryers.

The Hon. OqJonel W, £• ColUns, C.M.0., who has been acting as A.D. M.S., at headquarters, leaves shortly m charge of the medical staff of a hospital ship.
