THE ADVANCE CONTINUES
MOUNTED BRIGADE ATTACKED
BY SUPERIOR FORCE

f ßeuter's Telegram.' LONDON, May 3. A Palestine official report says: — We resumed operations east of the Jordan on May 1.
While the infantry attacked the enemy m the foothills south-westward and southward at Es Salt, the Australian mounteds entered the village, taking prisoner 33 Germans and* 317 Turks.
During these operations the Mounted Brigade, which watched the crossing of the Jordan at Jisreddamie, was attacked and forced back by a superior enemy, .who crossed the river during the night. The Horse Artillery battalions supporting this brigade m most difficult broken country were obliged to abandon nine guns. * The necessary supports for the detached brigade was immediately forthcoming and operations are proceeding. •We repulsed local attacks at several points "west of the Jordan.
