VICTORIA CROSS AWARD.

(Received May 4, 1.5 p.m.) LONDON, May 3. The Victoria Cross has been aAvarded to Sergeant S. R." McDougall, x of the Australian Infantry, for the following act : When the first enemy wave entered our line McDougall, on the flank, charged the enemy's second wave single-handed' with the bayonet. He killed seven men, and captured a machine gun, which he turned against the enemy, firing from his hip, inflicting further casualties and routing the remainder of the waves. McDougall then attacked the first wave at close quarters until the ammunition was exhausted, then he seized a bayonet and charged the enemy ugain, killing three, also an officer who had about killed one of our officers. McDougall then used a Lewis gun against the enemy, killing many and enabling us to capture 33 prisoners.
