TO GROW BRITISH TIMBER.
A State scheme, of timber planting is put forward by the. Forrestry Committee of the Reconstruction Ministry. The cost for the first 10 years would b* about £3,500,000. and for the first 40 year 3, when about 1,000,000 acres would be planted, about 3*5,000,000. After that the scheme would' be self-supporting. The supply pi pit-wood would come first, and it is*' stated that m 1915-16 we paid £37,000;,000 mora than its pre-war value for imported timber, mostly for pits.
