(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, last night. At the Defence Commission, Major Nutsford, giving evidence regarding the hire and repair of transports, said the conditions here were as good and arrangements for repairs m New Zealand as satisfactory aa at Home. The repairs or alterations were undertaken -at the direction of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, but it didn't appear economy was studied m England as m New Zealand. The accounts for services rendered m the United Kingdom were? paid by the High Commissioner without reference to New Zealand. He suggested that a special officer should be sent to England to look after these matters. Regulations dealing with the use of labor and' capital m industry and registration of companies were gazetted to* day. They prohibit development works costing more than £3000 without the consent of the Government; restrict the registration of new companies, and re> quire the consent of the Government to be given before new capital may be raised for any company. NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. Frederick Roebuck, Frederick McGregor and Arthur Corbet appeared before Mr. Crooke, S.M., yesterday and were remanded till Monday on cnarges of theft at Okato. It appears that early on Sunday morning the men were seen by the proprietor and an employee to leave Greenway's store premises with cases of benzine and kerosene. A chase ensued m which the pursuer fired a revolver. Roebuck and Corbet being caught, the latter heing entangled m a barb wire fence. Later Constable McNeill arrested McGregor, the accused being motored to New Plymouth. About 5 a.m. to-day a search warrant was executed by the police, and miscellaneous articles valued at £50 were discovered under the premises of Roebuck and McGregor, who were re-arrested. The goods have been identified by local storekeepers. * WOODVILLE, last night. The Territorial camp opens here tomorrow. About 800 men are expected. Owing ' to the extremely wet weather a meeting of officers was held to-day, and it was decided 1 not to put the men under canvas meantime, but to accommo* date them m the various halls.
