HARBOR BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP
MR TOWNLEY RE-ELECTED
The annual" election of ..Cliairnian> was proceeded with at a special meeting of the Harbor Board to-day. On this business being reached, Mr G. Smith rose and moved that Mr Townley be reelected.
The Chairman ; I liaye the floor first. I have great pleasure m proposing Mr Smith. Proceeding, the Ohaisman. pointed out that it required a town man. Mr Smith was this, and as a business man was suited to the position. . He thanked members for the long term of office he had held.
Mr Long seconded, and m doing so referred, to the. able and courteous way m. which Mr Townley had acted. Mr Preston proposed that the present Chairman should continue m office during 1 the ensuing twelve months. He did -so because they had reached a stage that they now kneiw where they were. Last year he had opposed Mr TownJey 's appointment, but things were now different. .There had been a re-arrangement of officers, and business was going on satisfactorily, He referred to the attention and energy Mr TownQey gave to the work, and thought it was up to the Board to appoint hian for another term. He suggested' Mr Smith aa deputy-chairman, and moved that Mr Townley be heartily* reelected. . ,
Mr Townley asked to make a state nient.

Mr Witters seconded the motion, remarking, that ihe did go with due respect to Mr Smith. .Mr Tomiley had obtained a new lease of life, and , he hoped: lie would see fit to accept office for another term.
Mr Smith, thanked members for nominating him, which he appreciated, but declined to accept nomination. Their business had been put ,on a much better basis, and this would lighten Mr TownJey'e duties.
Mr TownJey said it was chijefly on account of his health that he had clesired not to seek re-election, and he thought Mr Smith ought to take it to relieve him. He did not -want to put it to the vote, but he -wished to retire.

Mr Tombleson supported Mr TownJey's re-election, remarking they "libed the old chap."
Mr Wittiers: We nvill «appeal if he is called up m the ballot. — (Laughter.) Mr Towrfey said he had fully made* up hie mind tt> retire, but there being no other nomination lie would have to accept it. — (Laughter.) The whole Board was appointed a committee on all matters, as formerly.
