The Act does not apply to Maoris of other districts/ as with the exceptibh of the Waikatos all tribes ..have doric well. " It "has been decided to take a ballot of the First Division of Waikato Maoris within the next few days for the purpose of supplying reinforcements for the Maori contingent serving- m France. The ballot is only being applied to the Waikato natives for the reason that they have consistently stood . aloof -from voluntary recruiting all along, leaving it to the loyal natives to carry the burden. The machinery for taking' the ballot is now complete. The total number of First Division native reservists on the roll? in the district affected ft 420. Of these it is proposed to call up 200 m thejfprthcomingi ballot;
