LONDON, April 24,
A German official report,- referring to the raids on Zeebrugge /.aiid^Qstoiid- on the 23rd, says: "The enterprise j "which was conccivedi, .on a large scale, M ;,vf9s, planned regardless of sacrijlce, but frustrated, , . Small cruisers, Escorted • Jaynumerous destroyers and motor boats, after a violent bombardment, pushed forward under a veil of artificial fog near Ostend and) Zeebrugge to quite near the coasts, with the intention of destroying the locks and harbor works. Only 40 marines got on the mole, (md.' these fell into .our ..hands, some alive and some dead. Both parties fought on the narrow, high wall with, the utmost fierceness. .-.-'•■ . v *
The report '"claims' that the. small cruisers* Intrepid and Sinus and two others bf 'sintilar construction were /sunk j close to the coast, while three- destroyers and a considerable number of torpedo boats were also sunk, by artillery : fire, whihj only a few of the crews could' be saved. . -
