H.M.S. Vindictive left a number oi men on the mole when she finally sheered off j and some of these were subsequently taken off by -patrol boats and launches. The others remained and completed the task of destruction of military works, knowing they would bfc killed or taken prisoner.

Th© BritiA destroyer which is reported as lolt received the charges' from a salvo of guns m her engine room, and dashed ashore m a sinking condition, and ' was ultimately beached.. Another destroyer took off the survivors* and then blew up the stranded vessel.

There are conflioting stories regarding tbe German losses. Some of the survivors state that m addition to a destroyer rammed and two destroyers sunk m the harbor, one was sunk alongside the mole and other smaller craft, in- : eluding submarines, are reported to have been sunk.

Participators m the raid state that the concrete-laden ships were anchored at the entrance to the harbor, and swung round and sank within 23 minutes of anchoring.

LONDON, April 24. The Press Bureau reports that ViceAdmiral Keys has been promoted and created a Commander of the Bath, m recognition of his services at Zeebrugge. Cbmander Carpenter, commander of H.M.S. Vindictive, has been promoted to captain.

The Admiralty reports :-t—

Follpwigg yesterday's operations, our aircraft parried,., out observations and bomb attacks. Owing to clouds, our machines descended to 50 feet and observed a, elea^n break- of 20- yards, w^de m tlr^ f inner.'
