In practically every ctturcli'tße priest celebrated intercession masses that tho people might be delivered from' conscription, and celebrants outside the churches wero administered" a pledge against : conscription The . Bishop of Coholan, in administering the pledge outside Cork Cathedral, advised Sinn Feiners to be on their guard against unauthorised orders. The Bishop of Ross administered the pledge to 3000 people at a public meeting at Skibbereen. Ho said' if ' the people of Ireland remained calm,- cool, and determined the conscription order would) never be made.
