THE PICTURE HOUSES
) -r- ♦ ' EVERYBODY'S The patronage accorded the Triangle feature, "Sweetheart of the Doomed," with Louise Glaum as the central figure, is well merited. The acting, scenery, and general theme of the story is first-class, .the final scenes appealing, greatly to all. 'The Secret Kingdom" serial, Pathe Gazette, and Government film, "Alpine R'gions of N.Z."«(No. 1) are also popular. To-morrow the main attraction will be a picturisation of one of the famous Wolfville stories by A. H. Lewis, "Dead Shot Baker," starring William Duncan and rarol Holloway. All Wolfville disliked tho city bride of Dead Shot Baker, partly on account of her town manners, but mostly because they suspected her of unfaithfulness to the man they admired. This feeling leads to one of tho dramatic incidents Jn this Greater Vitagraph drama. A terrific fall over a cliff is one of the spectacular scenes in the picture, where the hero engages an outlaw leader in a furious hand-to-hand struggle on a mountain top. "His Criminal Career" 'Koystone comedy), . Gaumont Graphic, ind "Arid and Fruitful California" will be the supporting films. TOE PALACE Francis X. Bushman and his charming nr; rtner Beverly Bayne, appear in "Their Compact," the huge seven-reel Metro feature; for the last time to-night. Last night's performance was witnessed by (mother crowded audience, who thoroughly enjoyed; this most exhilarating film. To all- men a promise, however, sacred. Is not binding, but there are still men who do not regard their promise— a com•np.r.t maxjp with another— as "a scrap ol nnper." wf'rrineis Bushman as Van Dyke ■Moore, represents one' of the latter class, •nvl to say that lie gives a perfect portrayal, of tho blase N€fSy Yorker, who «ticks" ftp for the girl he loves and vanquishes his enemies is only tl\e tr-uth.-Beverly Bayne, too, presents a wonderful characterisation, and her acttng stamps her at once as one of 'the best screen artists of the day. To-morrow's chango is headed by a sublime "World's" drama, entitled "Husband and Wife,' in which ftthel Clayton, Montague . Love, Holbrook rslinn, Gerda, Holmes, nnd dainty little Madge Evans appear. Rarely does one see so many star artists appear in the si me picture, nnd patrons to-morrow night are promised a play that' vflll set j ♦hem thinking. * Patrons are asked to note the advent of a new serial picture at the Palace. This is "The Neglected Wife," a magnificent Pathe production, the first episode of which is billed for Wednesday. May Ist.
