POST-WAR PROBLEMS.
INDUSTRIAL LIPE OF THE PEOPLE • Ispecial to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. In si speech at Woolstoii tanneries, Sir Joseph Ward said it must be recognised that one of the first problems after the war was associated with the industrial life of tho people. If it was not for' the workers the war could not have been carried on by the Allies, and the war would bring about a recognition of . the " eights of the workers, while the workers would have to-, -be educated to a recognition of the * rights ' of capital m order that industries might be carried on. When the war was over all classes of. men would look upon one an- ! other as of the same blood. In this country at least there would be no .wretched class distinctions. Captains of industry would have to see that men engaged m industries received due mention. New Zealand would have to establish a system of equity of taxation.. Tire Government, it was true, took nearly half of the profits of such arr industry "as that which he had just inspected, but that money was spent m pensions, allowances, medical services, arrd true sport of the country's sons. He had. a' full knowledge of the position, but he >c^uld not say how much the Treasury w'orild; : require froni tbe people before the war was over. For one thing there must be closer settlement of tho land, m Order that tho number of people on the land might bo . trebled.
