RED TRIANGLE CAMPAIGN.

The lied Triangle campaign will be "launched" to-morrow with the arrival oi Mr A. Varney, national secretary for New Zealand. Owing to- the altered steamer arrangements, it is probable that Mr Varney will not arrive until late tomorrow afternoon, but this will not affect the programme, afi the lecture on the war work of th« V.M.C.A. has been fixed for Wednesday evening, m His 1 Majesty's Theatre. Tlie visitor will give" a most interesting address, entitled •'With Our New Zealand Soldiers on Active Service." A meeting of tho executive of the Ladies' Committee was held on Saturday evening, .when it was decided to hold tha Winter Show, as. 'previously outlined, on Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20. Arrangements have been made to secure the use of the Garrison hall for the occasion, and the ladies are entering into the project with enthusiasm, and have determined to make their effort on behalf of tho Red Triangle Fund a pro- ; nounced success. 1 Thanks to the generosity of a local ' builder, it is proposed to erect A ■ V.M.C.A. hut m Peel street for the closing meek of tho campaign (subject 1 to the permission of the Borough Couu- ! cil). Tho hut will be utilised for the sale* of morning and afternoon tea, and ■ will be run, a» near as local circum--1 stances will permit, on V.M.C.A. linos. The organisation of the hut ha* been entrusted by the Ladies' Committee to 1 Mrs Stanley Muir to obtain the assistaiicd of a number. of ladies for the running of the hut. They are already assured of generous assistance. Donations towards the hut fund will be gratefully received. That worthy cause, the "Red Triangle : campaign," is one which appeals to all, and no effort can bo too great to help the boys who are making such sacrifices. With this thought m mind the Women's Committee have no diffidence m asking all to help them with their Winter Fair, to be held on 19th and 20th April, m the Garrison Hall, and which they hope will eclipse all past efforts. Special attention is called to the advertisement of , the competitions, and it is hoped that as many as can will' enter m sonic class or classes. The kerosene or benzine tin article to bo made ought to bring iv huge entries. Prizes will be given for most useful and most ornamental work. The article from 2".yds. of ribbon (any width) should make an intensely interesting competition.. The side-shows promise to be both novel and amusing. Information regarding the competitions or any matter m connection with the Winter Fair can bo had from the lion, secretary (Mrs. W. A. Smith), 'phone 1050, or Mrs. J. Blair, 'phone 262, who will give full directions re the competitions. It is specially requested that entries for the adult short story and limerick and for tho junior short story and limerick poem should bo iv by April 16th. Offers of help m any shape or form will be gratefully received by the secretary or the Mayoress, 'phone 309. A sub-committee is meeting this afternoon to draw up a sports programme for consideration at to-morrow evening's meeting of the Sports Committee. Gisborne's "target," as mentioned m our last issue, is £10,000. A monster "baromieter" will be utilised to indicate the rise of the Gisborne campaign funds from day to day, affording a comparison with the ''shots" scored m other centres of the Dominion.
