. ■*" '■ ■ •:.'■■ ; / Tho Tolaga Bay sport* were held . on the racecourse on Easter Monday.'- The j attendance, in spite of the wet weather, ! was . a record, and competition for thei whjple of • the events was extra keen and! eicitSng. It was voted by the public to : be one of tho best sports gatherings ever held on' the Coast, and many were | the 'flattering comments heard on the I competitions" and the working committee. The catering was in the competent hands of Mrs Davies. and was a credit to all concerned. The following is a s brief account of the day's events: — The first event was the .Hunters' Jump; it brought forward ten entries, ahd a 'very keen -contest was .won by W. A. Caldwell's rßutton»^-3irt~4=tev;er's. Ga^A tain Jingle 2, A: Slack's Trafalgar 6. The second event was the Flag Race, 25- entries and was *vvon by P.> Callage bah, E. Dever being second, after an J exciting jand' close finish. The best hack "turned up in. J. Callag-' ban's Billy, which beat 16 others, AE. Dever's Ruru being second. Cue of 'the "most interesting events of tlie day was the Ladies' Flag Race, the ladies keenly competing for Messrs G. M. Colebrbok's and P. W. Holmes' Ist and 2nd trophies respectively. The winner was Miss P. Morris, who" narrowly defeated Miss K. Fitzgerald, amidst the applause of the onlookers, both showing' exceptionally good horsemanship." ') Tiie Stock Horse Race was another keen competition, resulting : P. Callaghan 1, A. Lincoln 2. 'l;nei*e were 25 entries. '' ' ■ 4 The wrestling ou horseback was ■■ a thoroughly clean and clever exhibition, beinfe won by B. Lincoln, C Rowe 2. The night alarm was won by P. Callaglian, Y. Smith being second. The tug-of- war was another event that filled iwell, two teaiiis pulling out the time allowed, viz., tive minutes, and o«'y gaining on one another about on« foot. In. the* filial pull S. .Olson's team won, after a *«pell-f Ought bwbtle. The bending race brought but 27 to decide- the issue/ and excitement was gloat, some ai; the contests being won by a very narrow, "margin. The winner was W. Smith, Ron. Fitzgerald second. The best girl rider was Miss P. Morris, Miss D. Reid second. . Tlv© .leaping match Was a fine exhibition of jumping. Of the ll\«ntries all showed a thorough education, and were a credit to their owners. The winner was cleverly ridden by P. Scammell.his owner; J. Sweeney was second, on- W. A. Caldwell's Paramatta. The last event was the eigar race, and was won on tho post by B. Lincoln, J. Mackintosh being seoond. '■; . The . weight-estimating competition, two live, sheep, weight-£l3£lbs, was Avon by J. R. Lincoln (211|), E. Devcr (215) being seoond. • .
