' Tl»3 annual report of the State lire office states that the profits for the past year were greater than in any previous year of its history ; £2,900,000 had been added to tho sum assured, bringing the total to nearly £22,000,000. Tlie net surplus for the year was £22,601. The net income was £91,380, an increase of £8686 over the previous year. The net losses were £27,302. For the purpose of assisting war finances there had been paid owr to the Government in loans and taxation £88,923. i— ——————
