Campaign arrangements were discussed at a meeting of the Y.M.C.A. execuI tive at. 5 o'clock last evening, Mr. H. Kenway, president, occupying tlie chair, i when it was decided to extend its hearty thanks to the Ladies' Committee for their kindly generosity in undertaking to assist the movement. Amongst a host of detail matters considered was the procuring of calico posters and streamers, and in, this connection it was reported that generous assistance was forthcoming from local business firms. The co-operation of the press and local picture houses is also being obtained in the scheme of publicity, whilst a local gentleman has kindly undertaken the manufacture of suitable colored picture slides. A novel scheme for the announcement of the state of the campaign fund from day to day put forward by the Publicity. Committee was approved, and it was decided to make the necessary application to the Borough Council for permission to erect streamers across the main 'thoroughfares, and for the use of a section of one of the streets. The possibility of running a Y.M.C.A. .hut was also discussed. Members of the Returned Soldiers' Association, it was -reported, are entering enthusiastically into the movement, and whilst it is not permissive just yet to disclose 'tha features of their organisation, the public may be informed that the soldiers are providing a touch of the "genuine article," which should prove a groat draw. Tha enthusiastic co-opera-tion of the mCn who have returned home from active service is doubtless the best 'endorsement the Y.M.C.A. -could look to, and is surely a recommendation to ons and all to "help the cause that helps the boys." The co-operation of the City Band has already been assured, and of the country centres communicated with Matawai, Te Karaka, and Tolaga. Bay havis already sent messages that they are. organising. Messrs. K. S. and H. B. Williams are assisting in the Waiapu district. The campaign, it should be explained, will extend over eleven days, and will close with a united effort on Red Triangle Day, Saturday, April 20. i Meetings of the Sports and the R^d Triangle Day Committee were also hefd at the Y.M-C.A. campaign, headquarters last evening. Mr. H. Maude was appointed Convenor, aiid ~sr. -Turned*- secretary of the Sports Committee. Eleven additional names were added to the pei*r sonnel of the committee, including the headmasters of the several schoo.ls. It was proposed to hold a sports carnival on Thursday, April 18, and it was de*cided to ask the Rugby Union for the use of the Domain for the occasion. All local sports bodies are being invited to co-operate, and it was suggested that local bowling and tennis clubs might consent to Red Triangle tournaments to aid the fund. ■ ■ 'i. A sub-commit'fee, comprising Messrs. Maude, Turner, Martin, Howard, and James was appointed to draw up a programme for the sports carnival for consideration at a further meeting next Tuesday evening. The co-operation of the local schools will_ v also be sought. Subsequently the Red Triangle Committte met and numerous suggestion' were put forward for' the "boosting" of Red Triangle Day (Saturday, April 20). It was decided to hold over any dafinite plans until the committee had met and discussed the matter with Mr. Varney, national secretary, . on Tuesday evening next. ""' .-•.-••' DUG-OUTS AND Y.M.C.A. HUT. It was announced by the organiser, Mr Feilding, to-day that thanks to the generosity of a local builder it will be possible to provide a Y.M.C.A. hilt on essentially typical lines (subject to the consent of the Borongh authorities respecting the use of the thoroughfare)' The same gentleman is also placing at the disposal of the Returned Soldiers" Association 500 cement bags for the construction of a dug-out designed hi true military fashion. Already a number of other generous offers have been received and any citizen or "firm desirous of cooperating is cordially invited to c6mmunicate witli. Air H. Kenway (president), Mr Long (secretary), or .with Mr Feilding (organiser).
