ENEMY PLANS MISCARRY.
STEADILY LOSING HEADWAY. EJGHTY DIVISIONS BADLY MAULED. ! (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) j LONDON, March 30i I The United Press correspondent, writing on Friday, says he believes that during the last 48 hours Hindenburg's coliorts have been brought practically to a standstill. Prom carefully-sifted information from widely different sources, h© is convinced that the battle plans of the German war lord have signally miscarried. The present spasmodic thrusts are due, partly to the. recomposition of the, enemy fighting forces and partly to the readjustment of the scheme of offensive. Prisoners intimate that the Germans 'expected to reach Amiens on the fifth or sixth day, thus cutting . the ParisCalais railway. Yet Amiens still stands. Similar remarks apply to Arras, which was Thursday's objective, coupled with an effort to capture Vimy by n flanking movement. ,Our withering machine gun and artillery fire checked the Kaiser's storm troops. Further cyclonic fighting is expected all along the line, hut the first flush of the enemy's enthusiasm has passed. Prisoners say the offensive is iiot going as well as expected, while the losses are hitrh. However, Herman discipline will undoubtedly continue the offensive, despite' the lower spirits of the "troops. Eijrhty enemy divisions have already been badly mauled, and many .are unfit to return' to the firing, line "before the tide has definitely turned. . but fresh divisions are being hurried up, and the tired wiemv is trying to advance everywhere possible, particularly southward of the Somme, m an effort to' reach Amiens. The enemy is steadily losing headway.
