As a result of representation by the Hotel Workers' Union re the war regulation dealing with anti-shouting magistrates are to be given, discretionary power with respect to the conviction of a bar attendant carrying with it disqualification of employment m licensed premises tor six months. The Cabinet has decided that the war regulation is to be amended accordingly. It was decided to close voluntary recruiting for other than Second Division yi'eservists & clear week before publication m the Gazette calling up further reserv- 1 ists, the object being to avoid the inclusion of names of the First Division men j who have volunteered and been attested I as soldiers m the week during which the Gazette is being prepared for publication. The dates upon which the ensuing Gazettes will be published will be March 26th March, 23rd April, 21st May, 18th June, and 16th July. In accordance with this decision voluntary recru'ting for the First Division reservists will he closed at noon on Monday next, and m future on the Saturday preceding the preparation of the publication of the Gazette. ' DUNEDIN, this day. After the coastal steamer Huia, which has had a protracted voyage from Wellington, was berthed at /Dunedin, the hatches wevo lifted with, the intention of discharging the cargo. A watorsider discovered fumes issuing from a case of phosphorus. The case was hoisted on to the wharf and the flames extinguished with several buckets of water.
