A considerble spirit of independence was disclosed m a letter to the Palmers- I ton North Borough Council, and read at : the last meeting, from a lady whose husband is expected to be called up shortly. ' Writing m regard to a borough lease,. | the lady said: "I could milk half-a--dozen cows when the Second Division was called up, and so help a little with the dear old 'carry on.' My last wish is to be an idle woman- living m town on my husband's allowance. If every woman who was able and so inclined would do the same it would bo a good' thing."
