A British officer of a London regiment, seeing the machine, fall, went oilt 'irom the trenches alone, with a view. to attempting the rescue of the pilot.. The first part of the way he managed to keep under cover of a slight rise, but for the last ,part he .was . quite m. the open. Just before he reached the machine this brave man was hit^ but he went on. He found the. Australian ' lying m a shell hole, wounded, but. alive. The* British officer cradled back with this* information v : and two/ non-commissioned _ officers were then sent out Hinder the white flag, which the Germans respected. Stretcherbearers w -followed, and the Australian was brought m. The British officer fortunately was only slightly wounded, and the Australian is now recoggring.*
