DpNEDp, ( this day. A disastrous fire" occurred at John [Edmonths' hardware, shop and warehouse, Princess street, this morning. The cause is unknown
The five originated apparently about lie centre oT-the'- building* 1 shortly after 2 a.m. The roof fell m about 3 o'clock. All firemen m the district were engaged, and the trouble was so far m hand by 4 o'clock as to allow the auxiliaries to be dismissed.
Two firemen, Goldsmith and Adamson, were thrown from a ladder and injured. They were removed to hospital, but their injuries are believed not to be serious.
Nothing was left of Edmonds* buildup but the outer walls. .
A rough estimate of the damage is £50,000 to stock and £5000 to tlio building. ■'■■:. . . ..:• , The Grand Piclui'e Palace,' next door, has the interior soaked, the damage .probably being £2000. . The Public Trust Office, the next door m the 3011 th, escaped with £50 damage. Steel's Clothing Factory, above Moritzson's) had the roof badly damaged ajid' the contents soaked and wafer-stairied.
Edmonds' insurances are 'believed %to be £35,000, but have not yet been calculated. - *.
